Brother of Napoleon. He was appointed King Louis of the 'Kingdom of Holland', established by Napoleon in 1806.

He played an important role in the creation of the first Dutch Civil Code and Criminal Code.

Wilhelmina of Prussia, wife of stadtholder William V and sister of King Frederick William II of Prussia.

She played a key role in the Goejanverwellesluis incident in 1787, which led to a Prussian invasion of the Netherlands and a large influx of refugees abroad.

One of the founders and leader of the Dutch patriot movement.

He played a significant role in the recognition of America. Thanks to a petition drive in which he played a significant role, the Netherlands became the first major power in the world to recognize the independence of the United States around 1780.

Political leader of the Batavian Revolution in 1795

Chairman of the provisional government during the Batavian Revolution in 1795 and of the first national parliament ('First National Assembly') on March 1, 1796.

In 1793, he wrote the influential book In What Respect Can People Be Said to Be Equal?. This book was summarized in the Holland Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, which Pieter Paulus proclaimed in The Hague on January 31, 1795.

In 1805, Napoleon appointed him Grand Pensionary of the 'Batavian Commonwealth', a position that brought the Netherlands under a single authority.

He came to power in France in a coup d'état in 1799 and subsequently seized power in the Netherlands.

He implemented numerous constitutional changes and incorporated the Netherlands into the French Empire in 1810.

Son of the last stadtholder William V. After the fall of Napoleon, he became king of the new ‘Kingdom of the Netherlands’ in 1815, in which the historic Northern and Southern Netherlands were reunited.
